Arnaldo Pomodoro – Rive dei Mari
from 22 May to 22 November 2015
The exhibition situated among the squares and rooms of Villa Fiorentino is not so much designed to ‘celebrate’ the monumentality of the works of Arnaldo Pomodoro, as it is to create a new relationship between them and their settings. The exhibition makes use of time, through which the spectator can ‘take in’ and become aware of the emotions stirred by contact with the works, and space, the openness of the City and the enclosed surroundings of the Villa, which allows the artistic nature of the sculptor to emerge from its foundation of architectonic sense and highly archaic symbolism.
We are presented with a steady unravelling of signs left upon sculptures in bronze, fiberglass, graphic works and in the artist’s books (paper is also a material!); the viewer soon learns how to ‘take in’ these signs rather than understand them, and to come to that sense of familiarity which allows them to discover everything within themselves.
The event, curated by Flaminio Gualdoni is Gino Fienga, and organized by the Fondazione Sorrento in collaboration with the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro and con-fine edizioni, includes the exhibition of seven monumental works already installed in squares around the town and about 70 works housed inside of the Villa Fiorentino.
